Almere - 14 October 2022 - Digital agency Elements from Almere won two Spin Awards during the Dutch Creativity Awards with the Podwalk app. In collaboration with production company Tuvalu Media and broadcaster NTR, Elements developed the Podwalk app for the television series “The Story of the Netherlands”. The app won awards in the Digital Audio and Mobile & Wearable categories.
The Spin Awards reward creative digital work in the Netherlands. The Podwalk app was developed to extend the television series into an interactive audio experience in which users can walk through Dutch history at historical locations.
With the Podwalk app, viewers can experience the stories from the television series outside the living room. The app combines location-based audio, storytelling and mobile technology. Users walk through cities and landscapes while the app guides them through key moments in Dutch history.
The jury recognized the app because it connects media, education and technology in an accessible way. By using mobile interaction and high-quality audio, the app brings historical stories close to the user.
The Podwalk app was created in close cooperation with NTR and Tuvalu Media. Elements was responsible for the digital product, the app experience and the technical realization. Winning two Spin Awards is a strong recognition of the quality of that collaboration.
We are proud that the app helps make Dutch history tangible for a broad audience and that the project has been recognized by the Dutch digital creative industry.
DCA vakjury quote: “We love the concept of ‘Het verhaal van Nederland’, the app truly invites you to experience one of their proposed walks. It's well made with high production value. The use of audio really adds to the experience of the overall concept.”
“Building upon the success of the popular television documentary the ‘Podwalk app’ delivers great content though a well-designed app. The app delivers something unique to the TV show and brings historic places in the Netherlands to life. The jury is impressed by the reach, 250k downloads is significant for any app.”
